Seventh Annual Kids Challenge
(2005-2006 AD)
Contest Rules
The Primrose Gradations Kids
Challenge is a fiber arts challenge open to children 18
years and under as of December 31, 2005. The purpose of this
Challenge is to encourage young people to be creative in
expressing their artistic thoughts in the fiber arts field
and provide a showcase for their creations.
This is a competition for and about children
artists. All entries submitted must be the work of
the person or persons applying to the competition. Technical
advise may be solicited from persons older than 18, but all
sewing, construction, and stitching must be accomplished by
the person(s) listed on the entry blank.
Age divisions:
Division 1=Ages 14-18 as of December
31, 2005
Division 2 =Ages 9-13 as of December 31, 2005
Division 3 =Ages 8 and under as of December 31, 2005
Works will be judged and accepted using the
following criteria:
- Originality and creativity
- Composition and use of color
- Technical accomplishments and process
Size and type of works eligible:
Works may be quilts, wearables, doll
clothing/accessories, handmade dolls or other objects de'
art (own creation).
- Maximum size 36" by 36" (2
Dimensional)
- Minimum size 5" by 5" (2 Dimensional)
Two dimensional work must
have a display pocket sewn onto the back, able to accept a
rod of 1/2" inch.
Three dimensional entries must be able to be
displayed on an ordinary table and be self supporting.
- Maximum size 18"x18"x18" (3
Dimensional)
- Minimum size 5"x5"x5" (3 Dimensional)
All work must have been constructed after January
1, 2000 and in excellent condition.
All entries must be available for display from
September 7, 2005 through August 30, 2006 and will be
displayed at the the following shows;
- Pennsylvania National Quilt
Extravaganza-Fort Washington, PA
- Pacific International Quilt Festival-Santa Clara CA
- Mid-Atlantic Quilt and Wearable Arts
Festival-Williamsburg, VA
- World Quilt and Textile-location to be announced
- Other venues to be announced
All entries must be postmarked no later than
JUNE 30, 2005
Shipping and administration
All entries must:
Have a cloth label with the Name,
Address and Telephone number securely fixed to entry.
Be shipped in a secure, reusable shipping
container (it is suggested that the entries are placed in a
cloth sack, and then in a plastic bag, with all items
labeled). Please do not use shipping peanuts or Styrofoam in
the shipping container. The cost of return shipping and
insurance will be borne by the contest administrators.
All photographs or other images taken of the
entry become the property of Primrose Gradations, a Balsam
Incorporated Company, and David and Peter Mancuso, Inc., to
be used for publicity and /or publication use. Personal data
to be published shall be limited to participants name, age,
hometown and personal photo.
All entries and applications must be approved by
a parent or legal guardian and bear their signature. Filing
of an application signifies agreement with all of the
contest rules and stipulations.
All judges decisions are final. Judges reserve
the right not to make an award in a given category should
there be insufficient entries.
To Enter:
Complete your project well prior to
the June 30, 2005 entry
deadline!
Photograph your project using PRINT film, showing
a front view, back view, and close up detail. Digital images
are acceptable in PICT or JPEG formats, medium to high
resolution. Feel free to have a parent or friend do the
photography so that we can easily judge the work you have
done. Natural outdoor light without too many shadows will
give you the best results.
Complete the
entry
form and have a parent sign the form giving you
permission to enter the challenge.
Complete the entry description, telling us about
your project. Interesting details describing your ideas,
construction techniques, and thoughts of how and why you did
this project will be displayed along with your project.
